Company causes this misery!

Many of you know I grew up in Greater New York City.  Where Robert Moses transformed the area to produce a plethora of roads and bridges.  But, even with all that building, traveling was tough.  The Southern State Parkway (which was the backyard of my childhood home) opened in 1927.  This four lane, 25 miles long, parkway started with tolls providing access to New York City for those on the Southern reaches of Long Island.  It became 8 lanes (city line to the Hempstead Lake State Park) and six lanes thereafter before I was 10.  The tolls disappeared sometime after I left the area.

Got your shots?

Given the craziness of certain people and their insane beliefs that vaccinations should be withheld from their children, it is not surprising that we are experiencing widespread increases in diseases that were once considered to be virtually eradicated.  I won’t even go into the senseless epidemic of flu that is enveloping us.

Migraines

My business partner for years has suffered from migraines.  From that situation alone, I could attest to the debilitating effects of the malady.  The fact that 10% of Americans (some 36 million people) also suffer means that many, many days of productive life are affected.   And, most of those folks- and more importantly- most of everyone else has the wrong impressions about migraine.

1, 2, 3, 4– exercise- get out the door

Exercise.  Our brains need itOur bodies need it.  We expect exercise to show results- with weight loss, with muscle tone- and it doesn’t always do so.  It affects our blood pressure maintenance, keeps our cholesterol balance in check, reduces the risk of stroke and cardiac disease.  It’s why we are supposed to exercise 2.5 hours over the course of a week; 60 minutes a day helps with weight loss.  (I don’t think many of you are spending an hour a day exercising.  Me, neither.) So far, I’m sure that nothing I’ve said surprises you.

3D printing coming to the military

No Gravatar

I’ve written that the military is researching alternative fuels.  (Here and here, for starters.)  Primarily because the logistics of getting fuel to the front is problematic- not only is the journey often difficult, but troops are put at risk defending that transport.  Well, that’s also why the military is examining the use of 3-D printing- so that critical components can be at the front.  Not only can they be made available quickly- the need to inventory various parts is moot, since they can be printed on demand. Unfortunately, the CAD (computer-aided design) software and CNC (computer numerical control) machining technologies are still complex- so we won’t be seeing this technology on every forward base just yet.

Financials are just a blip in time…

No Gravatar

I know most of you run your companies on a cash basis.  Your gross is small enough that the IRS does not require you to run accrued financials, which are more difficult to maintain.  But, it would behoove most firms to check their positions using accrued financials every once in a while.
