Each day we get more and more information. And, we worry how useful it is. In less than 15 years, the amount of information we assimilate has quintupled. So, of course, we feel the effects of overload. But, do we really?

Tonight
Tonight is the first night of Chanuka. That means it is the 25th of Kislev. (It is also the day our family traditionally celebrated my grandfather’s birthday- who only knew his birthday was on Chanuka.) The holiday of Chanuka is NOT the same as Christmas, even though the Christians adopted the 25th for their celebration.
It’s more than choosing well…
So we spoke last week about the value of conscientiousness in having our marital state helping our careers. But, what helps us stay married? Science says —kindness and generosity.
Look who graduates?
I have railed against the destruction of our educational standards, since the athletes on teams rarely graduate- and those that do rarely graduate on time. The good thing is that at least the costs for four of their years (if they graduate) are covered. So, they won’t be accruing debt as they fail to achieve a proper education. (No, this does not mean they all don’t learn. Amazingly, this year’s MIT football team was without a loss- yet, and they are in the football championships.)
Choose well
I always enjoy reading research about married life. It makes me recognize what I did or did not do over the years.
We resolve…
The job of the entrepreneur and the corporate CEO are similar. They are both charged with energizing their team, keeping them honed to the mission, and with insuring the growth and success of their firms.
It’s in our genes!
So, years ago Drs. Settle, Dawes, Christakis, and Fowler reported (The Journal of Politics) that there is a gene associated with liberal thought. It seems that folks with liberal dispositions also seek out new and novel experiences. Those same folks have the 7R variant of the dopamine receptor (G4). This research came after Bouchard & McGue, Cloninger, Svrakic, & Przybeck, among others determined that social conservatism is also inherited.

So, we’ve got out toys – 3D printers. And, many companies are using them, as I’ve reported. But, now, the 3D printer has gone into orbit.
Something new (maybe even better) under the sun?
I remember the first time I made a veggie burger for my kids. They knew something was different- only because in our home there would never be cheese on a hamburger. (Kosher requires the separation between meat and dairy- never on the same plate, let alone within the same food item.)

If my magic wand had batteries…
It always amazes me that U.S. dialysis patients are not more healthy than the rest of the world’s. Even though our program costs more than everyone else’s. Of course, many of our dialysis patients end up as dialysis patients because they have diabetes- which is the proximate cause of their kidney failure. And, keeps our dialysis population at the top of the charts (as in “way too many patients”). And, this also often leads to cardiovascular complications, which reduces the ability of these patients to undergo kidney transplants.
