Well, the title seems appropriate. Because of this new development with fungi. It seems that we can convert fungi into thin sheets- I know that’s not a big deal. But, this is- those sheets are fire resistant, which would make them perfect for use in building structures.

Productivity Gains
Well, what do you know.
We can finally report that everyone agrees that US Labor productivity is increasing. As a matter of fact, it realized the largest increase (Q2 2023) is almost 3 years. Productivity grew by 3.7% (annualized) rate, after declining during Q1 2023; wages, adjusted for inflation, only rose by 2.7%, the first increase in a year. (That’s a 50% increase over the economists projections.) Which means rising wages were offset by the increase in productivity. (Unfortunately, the hours worked per week also dropped.)
Particulate Problems
Here’s some food for thought.
We have managed to improve the technology in our cars, so that tailpipe emissions are now considered to be minor. (Note: That is not true for the emissions from big rigs, those tractor trailers that haul our freight around the country. They still produce volumes of pollutants- hence the push for the electrification of their engines- or to convert them to use hydrogen fuel cells.)
Let’s Innovate
Yes, I am a techie.
But, I know that innovation doesn’t only get introduced from a research lab or a design studio. After all, I invented my artificial kidney in my basement. Colon lavage via a thought experiment. The concept for a neurosurgical drill during a midnight reverie. And, so on.

When a diagnostic test is dead wrong
Expectant parents always want to know what’s in store for their baby to be. Unfortunately, too many of the prenatal tests simply fail to provide accurate results.
Bioengineering
When I became a biochemical/biomedical engineer some 50 years ago, the focus was on human applications. This was long before genetic engineering, CRISPR, and the like existed in the scientific/technological domain.
