7 & 7 (no, not the drink)

So, Janine Ripper offered me up with another award– another 7 links challenge, different from the first such award for which I had to respond.  And, before I got that request out of my queue, Shawn R. Snyder provided me with yet another challenge (Inquiring Minds Want To Know). Given those nominations (dares?), I have prepared my responses accordingly.

Seven Links Most Beautiful Post – I am not sure I can choose one.  Because to me, the most beautiful post is the one that causes YOU, the reader, to take action.  It could have been the one I posted on Thanksgiving 2011 asking you to change the world, but only you can tell me.

Most Popular Post AND The Post Whose Success Surprised Me – My most popular post is “Shh.  Price Increase.  (Are you timid about that)”.   The fact that it’s popular is not surprising- but the fact that it also got the highest number of individual hits on any given day did blow me away.

Most Controversial Post – I don’t really know which post is my most controversial.   Because it’s not clear if that qualifications means the highest number of comments, the most tweets, the most referrals, or whatever.  But, I believe that my series on dialysis- as a result of the Propublica piece- probably qualifies.

Most Helpful Post – This may have been the most popular piece (as mentioned above), as well, since pricing is an art that confounds most of us. But, it may also have been my piece on note taking (Take Notes.  The ones you will remember always).

Post I Feel Didn’t Get the Attention it Deserved – I honestly cannot place a post in this category.  I am honored by and for each one of you that reads my posts. Of course, I would love to have a bazillion (like the TV commercial that makes fun of us knowing what our retirement fund needs really are) readers talking about my posts, but that was not the question asked.

Post That I Am Most Proud Of – I think that this has to be my first post (Opening Gambit) – not because it was my best, but because it was when I made the commitment to blog- and offer my wares to you- the reader- warts and all.   Thanks for reading them all!

Inquiring minds want to know  (or 7 Random Facts about me that you probably don’t know)

  1. I read a lot.  Books (several at once), journals, newspapers, magazines, boxtops.
  2. I have been an entrepreneur since I was around 8.  (No one really knew what that meant then- including me).
  3. I was determined to become a chemical engineer when I was 8 years old- and invent an artificial kidney.
  4. Having a big dream is great (see 3 above)- but if you achieve it too early, you can be hard pressed to choose the next journey.
  5. My bio blurb is all me, no fluff.
  6. I adore children.  But, mine (Shanna, Shira, Daniel, as well as Matt and Matt, and my grandson Eli) above all else.
  7. My Friday Night table is (almost always) open.  For wide-ranging discussions.   And, I am a heck of a cook.  (Come on, it’s just chemical engineering!)

Oh, and I now have to pick other suckers (oops, candidates….)  I am forbidden to pick those folks I already know have been chosen, as well… As such, the circle continues with…

Ann Mullen (we’ll let her pick which blog she wants to publicize)

Lynn Brown  LearnIt2EarnIt

Lauren Huston  Social media (or her newest creation)

Patricia O’Flynn A Trish Out of Water

Samantha Luy  used to have a blog- What Little Things, no more

Lisa Brandel (who will also have to choose which venue to employ)

Jennifer Boykin  Life After Tampons

May all of you all have a wonderful Easter or Pesach- or whatever you hearts desire… Roy A. Ackerman, Ph.D., E.A.

  1. Always enjoy reading your stuff! I started on my entrepreneurial journey around 7 or 8 as well. I painted rocks and sold them as paperweights and made homemade candles and sold those as well.

(P.S. I kind of really dislike that, if I misspell a word in your comments, I can’t go back to correct it without deleting all of what I just wrote! But I know why it is that way and respect that.)

    1. Thanks, Nicole. Good thing you didn’t sell me your rocks, I might have found other uses for them :-)….

And, yes, I know that’s a problem- but I do correct the spelling for all posts, knowing that my penchant to keep my material mine renders corrections difficult.

Sorry- but only up to a point 🙂

  2. mission completed 🙂

  3. Roy, like my sister quotes at me a lot, “G-d will get you for that and I’ll help her.” It is amazing to me how much I can talk about myself until someone asks me a question. I hope that you have a Happy Passover. I don’t like the comment thingy you have set up either, but I understand your paranoia. Someone has broken into my personal blog and has been putting things in it that make me blush. I can’t figure out how to get them out. How does Passover work when the first night is on Friday night? Do you have the second night Saturday night without doing any work on the Sabbath? Any way have a good one.

    1. Yes, Ann, to your last question. ALL the cooking has to be done by today. We are only permitted to heat things up during the Shabat.
May Easter bring you all you deserve AND desire… And, I look forward to your 7’s on the personal blog.

      Roy

  4. Today I am grateful that I was unnominated. Roy, I so admire your range of topics, the research you do. And yes I am off to read the other blogs you suggested that I was unaware of. Keep blogging and I will keep reading. You keep me honest and open minded and informed about what is happening in medicine (my first love) and business (my passion)

    1. Oh, Roberta- you, too, have been on the 7s before- I think we both were back when this was all the rage. But, after repeated renominations, I felt that these folks who offered me up were being insulted by not “playing along”…
And, I, too, enjoy your blogs.
May the new year (since Pesach/Passover is the start of another year; Easter denotes rebirth) render us both more knowledgeable, more profitable, and more of everything else we want…

      Roy

    1. You’re welcome to join us, Lauren…
And, since I don’t cook with any preservatives, I am sure that my food would yield a mushy, moldy mess by the time it reached you in the Northeast.

      Happy Holidays…

      Roy

  5. Thank you Roy for the mention and I always enjoy reading and learning from you. I didn’t know you were an entrepreneur at the age of 8! Bet those kids wish they would have followed your lead. And even though some of your posts make me feel a little underknowledged (don’t think that is a word, lol), it is always a wonderful way for me to learn. And I love to learn something new every day. I think that is why I love my blogging communities and all the great people we are associated with. Again, thanks Roy!

  6. Roy, I loved this. I really enjoyed reading about your posts. That is difficult to do especially when you are a writing about your passion and to pick, choose between your entries is tough decision. I really love getting to know fellow bloggers, especially when we are off our game and put into the position of writing about ourselves. It makes us have to get personal, which usually we do relate personal experiences but not to the degree that a post entry like this puts us out there in this form. Great work, Roy!
