Tonight starts a most unusual holiday. The bible gives us very little clue. It’s called the Eighth Day of Assembly (Shmini Atzeret).
Some folks consider it the eighth day of Sukot (discussed a week ago). My family never did. We stop eating in Sukah as soon as this day begins. It’s a new holiday. And, the only requirement is that we celebrate life and our religion.
It also coincides with another observance called Simchat Tora. We read from the Tora, the Five Books of Moses [the first five books of the bible] every week. On this holiday, we have completed the cycle, with the death of Moses- and immediately read from the first part of the bible, the story of creation.
May this new cycle bring you everything you need- but especially health, happiness, and peace.
May this be a blessed, joyous year and may it bring you everything good you wished for. My wishes to your family! 🙂
