Liebster Award

So, my friend, Julia Neiman, nominated me for the Liebster award.  I am not quite sure why it’s called that, since it related to business, but—I didn’t develop the award.  I’m honored by the nomination and will observe it’s requirements now…  (By the way, answering these questions will make this a fairly long blog.  Now that I have finished editing, I know the number of words are 984 ) First, 11 facts about myself, in random order…

  1.  I have been blessed with wonderful children, each with their own compass.  One has even blessed me with a grandchild.
  2. I never would have believed that I would spend more than half my life in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  3. Because I was born in New York City (Brooklyn Jewish Hospital, to be precise).
  4. I have lived in New York, Massachusetts, Michigan, California, and Virginia.
  5. I had a dream when I was 8 years old… which was accomplished way too early.  I understand the dilemna of the dog who catches the car…
  6. I treasure learning.  It has been among my life-long pursuits.
  7. Because of that, I read- almost anything.
  8. I am passionate in everything that I pursue- and I pursue a lot- often, at the same time.
  9. I am worried about the direction of this country- and most of the rest of the world.   We seem determined to repeat history, often the most detestable elements of what has already occurred.
  10. I have voted in every election for which I was entitled since I was 18- with one exception, a non-publicized special primary election some five years ago.  (Gotta love votes in May…)
  11. I am thankful to Hashem, the Supreme Being, each day and each moment of my life.  Even when things don’t look all that fantastic.

My next requirement for this award (tell me again how an award gives me MORE work????) is to answer the 11 questions that Julia has specifically proposed to me… 1. Are you an entrepreneur or have you been in business for awhile (sic)? This question is not how I would phrase it.  I have been an entrepreneur for more than 50 years.  So, the answer to both is YES. 2. What is your biggest blogging challenge? My biggest challenge is getting EVERYONE to read my posts.  I know how valuable they are 🙂  ! 3.  What is one goal for your blog? The primary goal of my blog is to demonstrate the breadth of knowledge, experience, and expertise that I (and the rest of us) possess that can be used to augment and expand the business of our clients. 4. If money were no object, what would you do all day long? I think that I would be doing the exact same thing I do now all day long.  Yes, money is important- because it is used as a measure of success and because – while the best things in life are free, you still need money to enjoy them!-, but doing what is needed to be done, making this world better each day- is something that requires diligence. 5. Who is your ideal client/customer? Our ideal client is one who has a mission or a dream.  It may not be fully articulated (with which we can help), but that is clearly visible.  S/he or it (sorry, corporations are NOT people) is not reaching that goal as quickly or as completely as desired. 6. What social media sites are you on aside from Facebook? I am, theoretically, involved with a variety of social media sites.  But, realistically, I am involved with Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.  The others have not demonstrated their benefits clearly enough to me to nudge their way into my crowded schedule. 7. What is stronger for you, your dream or your doubts? Doubt?  Moi?   Seriously, I don’t let my doubts stop me from acting. 8. What services does your business offer? We offer a plethora of services.  Which, we admit, is somewhat confusing to potential clients, who have never seen us operate.  (a) We work with clients to insure they pay the lowest amount of taxes required by law.  (Why should Romney and his ilk have all the fun?) (b) We work with clients to develop operations, marketing, products, services that augment their bottom line.  We learned long ago that increasing sales does NOT always increase profits.  And, it often hurts cash flow. (Ask us how…) (c) We can see “the holes” in product and service offerings, rather quickly.  And, we can develop the solutions to plug those holes.  (d)  We train our clients in management, finance, and operations, on an as-needed basis.  We also offer special programs to clients in these areas. 9. Do you have a business coach? No, I do not have a business coach, per se.  I have had a series of mentors throughout my life.  Many of whom have been honored on this very blog.  I have very good friends with whom I communicate daily (ok, hourly?) and we each hone our actions to perfection by our interactions. 10. What makes you happiest about your business? What makes me happiest is seeing a client “get it”, seeing a client reach the next step on the ladder, getting better at what it does.   It’s akin to being a “proud papa”. 11. What is your biggest guilty pleasure? I don’t have any “guilty” pleasures.   All my pleasures are deserved and innocent of shading.  And, I love each and every one of them!!!! I think Julia’s questions were pretty good and will end up using them, too.  I would prefer a TOTAL of 11 questions, not 11 questions twice, but I didn’t invent this award…(Where IS my magic wand?) And, who will I nominate?  In NO special order… (don’t even try to fathom how this list was developed…)

Thanks for reading- and reading my nominees’… Roy A. Ackerman, Ph.D., E.A.

  1. A great read as always Roy. Liebster, as I am sure you already know, is from the German word Lieb which is Love. To me, your blog demonstrates your love of learning and your love in sharing knowledge, thereby making this the perfectly named award for your blog. It was a lot of work to accept this award but well worth it. And Roy, we were born in the same hospital.

    1. Julia, if we were born in the same hospital, then it means you have reached a certain age, as well, since the hospital has long since disappeared…
And, thank you for your gift of the award. I hope the 11 folks I have chosen help further the cause of the award.

  2. Congrats Roy! and I loved reading more about you and I didn’t know that you lived in Michigan, that is where I was born and raised, but moved to California in 1979. I love these kind of posts because we get to learn more about the person behind the ‘blog’.

Oh, and thank you so much for adding me to your list. I’m very honored Roy. Have a great day!
