So, here I was by the dawn’s early light (not really- there isn’t any yet) perusing my daily reads, only to find that Muriel Jacques has nominated me for the Liebster Award... To the best of my recollection, this is my third go-round with this…so, it must be that my name starting with A makes me an easy choice…
Seriously, though, Muriel presented me with a list of 11 questions to which she expects answer…
And here are the 11 questions that the lovely nominees will have to answer, if they want to of course:
1. Why do you blog?
I began my blog a few times… Mostly before there were platforms to make the bloviating easy. One of the primary reasons I began blogging was to reduce the eMail load I present to my clients and friends. Now, they can decide if they want to read what I have to say, instead of clicking spam on my name, relegating my thoughts to their trash bin.
Seriously, though, my blog is meant to assure the potential client of the breadth and depth of my abilities to help them reach the pinnacles they hope to achieve. Whether it’s product/process design, management, finance, or just a second opinion- my blog should serve to engender trust in my abilities to overfill your needs. (What it can’t convey is the financial benefits you would see. That requires you calling or eMailing me- and finding the bottom line changes that accrue.)
2. What makes you happy?
Funny, this came up just the other morning. Yesterday (when I wrote this), someone at my favorite coffee shop, St. Elmos, came by and asked where my two compatriots had gone. (I get there very early on Monday’s, since I take a class at 5:30 AM; normally, I arrive later and there are many more of my “buds” around.) I replied that one was feeling overwhelmed and wanted to get an early start. The other- I wouldn’t miss. Because in the more than decade I have known him, I have never once heard him utter a happy thought.
I know that’s a long answer- to get here. But, I am generally always happy. I have been identified on crowded streets in unfamiliar cities by my laugh (yes, someone I knew heard my laugh- and said- Can he be here, too?). I may be annoyed by the stupidity in Congress, but even you must admit- it’s laughable how absolutely asinine they are!
3. Where do you live?
In a house- for now. OK, seriously, I live in Metropolitan DC. A place I would never have thought would be my home. But, to be honest, most of the places I have lived could qualify with that answer.
4. What is your favourite food?
Ah, yes, Muriel spells the way I used to. But, I have slowly learned to employ American English…Wait, I digress.
My favorite flavor is chocolate- Twizzlers, candy bars, pudding, cake… But, my favorite foods are either noodles and cheese (just ask my kids) or a blood-rare steak. (Now, that covers the spectrum…)
5. How do you relax?
Next…
Seriously, I relax all the time. It’s just that most people consider that a frenetic pace. 🙂
But, probably, my mornings at St. Elmos are the closest thing to a daily relaxing thing for me. Where I meet, greet, and cavort with friends, as I read (devour?) my morning papers.
6. If you could jump in a plane right away, where would you go?
Yerushalayim. (Jerusalem, for those who speak English.) New York, Philly, or Charlottesville would be second choices (the first two for different things I like to do, all three to be with my kids).
7. What helps you to write?
My fingers????
I write with a fountain pen or a keyboard on one of five or six computers or a tablet.
My mind is fiowing with so many ideas, I rarely have to think about writing. I worry about conveying my thoughts cogently and in a manner that others may comprehend (since my verbal discourse is akin to water flowing out of a fire hydrant. Oh, wait, here in DC, that usually means a trickle, but you know what I mean…)
8. What was 2013 main highlight so far?
My youngest child graduated after a stupendous career at the University of Michigan. My middle one traveled the world (or as far as she wanted to go). My eldest and her family are thriving with their lives in Philly. What more could one want?
9. What are your plans for 2014?
To earn the money I deserve. Oh, seriously…
I would love to return to academia. No, that wouldn’t stop me from working with small-to-mid-sized entities, helping them make this world a better place with new widgets, services, or things that go bump in the night. Because that also turns me on.
10. How do you see yourself in 10 years?
Probably dead. But, if not, doing nothing much different that I am doing now- with the exception of teaching, as well.
11. And finally, what would you do if you won the lottery tomorrow?
Maybe, I should PLAY the lottery, first??? Oh, well, I’ll “play” along.
I would start a new company that would let me help folks avoid dialysis for as long as possible. Too many of us (being obese and of high blood pressure) are bound to need that therapy. I have a means to at least stave it off for a long while. And, it would create jobs for folks…
But, given the economy, it’s been tough to get investors. (Because it won’t make billions of profits.)

And, now, the other Liebster Award requirements besides answering these questions. Pick 11 suckers…Oh, wait, nominees, for the award.

Thanks for the visit- and the curiosity, Shawn.
I enjoyed your comments, Roy. Thank you for your nomination…I am getting ready for a big craft fair (tomorrow) but will get back to blogging on Friday.

I considered putting my “liebster” claws into you- but saw someone else corralled you.
Awww. . . I don’t know which is the best part–being nominated for the Liebster award, or learning all these quirky and surprising tidbits about you, my friend Roy. THANK YOU and congratulations and GOOD FOR YOU!!

Moi? Quirky? You just don’t know quirky, Amy….:-)
Congratulations on your well-deserved award!
Your blog is always fun to read Roy. These awards, while lovely to be able to display, are a lot of work and they hardly seem like awards at times. Good on you for your third one.

Thank you so much, Julia! And, yes, they are. Which is why I cut the questions, pasted them in, and then wrote my answers. Anything to make it easier.
Oh boy, Roy! This is a high compliment, Roy, because I respect you greatly. (and now, here comes the BUT). But, this is the 3rd (or maybe the 4th) time I’ve been nominated. I am going to respectfully decline, as I have done the other times – there are both good reasons for accepting and good reasons for rejecting and you’ll see my reasons when I write my declination post. I thank you tremendously for the opportunity, though and I did enjoy reading about you!

Thanks for telling us more about you Roy! It looks like you have a pretty full-on life. I liked your comment about my British English. I mean French English. Well, whatever!
