Seek and Ye Shall Find?

OK.  This is a subject matter that requires adult supervision.  I debated writing about it- but I know it’s been a subject of interest (maybe just for the males) for at least 3 decades.   The problem is that we still know no more- definitively- than we did when I was younger… much younger.

As is true for many religions, mine considers sexual intercourse a natural event, one that should be effected often (of course, to have children… many children).  On Friday nights, it’s considered a double mitzvah.  But, we (the males) are also commanded to insure that our spouses “receive pleasure”.  Which leads me to this blog’s subject… Is there a G spot? And if so… where is it?

The Grafenberg (G) spot was considered, when I was younger, to be that ephemeral location that would truly provide one’s partner with the ultimate experience.  (The term was coined in 1981 in an article by Drs. Addiego, Belzer, Comolli, Moger, Perry, and Whipple.  They did not consider it to be a specific structure, but an area of intense arousal and sensation.) It has been thought to be a few centimeters from the vaginal entrance, on the wall of the vagina, and separate from the clitoris.  Some folks have claimed to have found it, but current data seems to debunk those findings.  Drs. Kitchevsky, Vardi, Lowenstein, and Gruenwald published a review of the literature (1950 to 2011)  in the Journal of Sexual Medicine (January 2012) that came to the conclusion that there is neither consistent nor strong evidence for any such location in the female anatomy.

Along comes Dr. Adam Ostrzenski (Institute of Gynecology, St. Petersburg) to essay that the claims of a G spot are true- and he found the exact location.  Ostrzenski performs cosmetic surgery and noted that his patients confirmed their belief that there was a G spot.  To determine it existed, he dissected an 83 y old cadaver; in particular, the anterior vaginal wall.   (He chose the elder woman to determine if the structure persisted through the life of the female and did not disappear with age.)

The G Spot

He found a sac between the vagina and the urethra, fairly close to the perineal membrane.  Distinct and apart from the Skene glands.  This sac is about 1.6 cm from the upper portion of the urethral opening, less than 1 cm in length, and at a 35 degree angle to the urethra.  Moreover, this sac (small glands with balloon like masses on either side of the urethra)  had three distinct regions that mimicked erectile tissue (which is normally found in the clitoris).  Dr. Ostrzenski plans to examine the cadavers of younger women, to add further proof to his finding.

Until that definitive result, I am sure that both genders would love to practice finding the exact location…

  1. I’d like to say I hope I don’t have to be dissected for it to be found. Just throwing that out there. That said, I’m also glad there is hard scientific evidence that it does exist so we can not take it off the list that includes, Yetis and the lochness monster. 🙂 Double Mitzvah for all! I’ll be sure to pass this info along as I know a lot of people are interested, and may even benefit from it! Cheers!

  2. Roy,

My husband says he looks forward to exploring the findings. 😉 Although the topic at hand is a bit more clinical than my writing ability, you’ve done a great job as always!

  3. My daughter is a biology major. I tell you this to inform you that we have talked about biology and all of the biology field since she has been in jr high. But one night when she was still in college her dad and I took her out for dinner. We talk during dinner in our family so we are chatting about what she has been doing in school when the subject of human reproduction/sex came up. The subject has come up in our family many time we lived on a small farm when the kids where growing up and they saw reproduction plus again we have discussed the full scope of biology as she has been growing up. So, nothing unusual up to this point.

Until she goes into full detail of minutes for a man and what is happening inside of the woman during these minutes. I look up and the waitress is standing there with refills for the drinks, her face is showing shock, I look over at her dad and his face has gone beet red. I bursted out laughing. Meg is still going on with her full discussion and irritated at me for interrupting her.

So, G spots and the like are not discussed at our house anymore.

  4. Your post amazed me! I admit sir Roy, i would love to make my partner find my G spot. Well, it’s not just about sex for me but the love as well as the curiosity in finding proof about the G spot. :). Thanks again. 🙂
