It ain’t Switzerland anymore!

This was not good news.  To me, this was on the same plane as the Citizen’s United decision,  which meant that the average Joe no longer has an equal voice in any election, because now big money controls it all.

So, imagine how your small business will prosper when the internet will be the playground for the rich companies?  After all, if the FCC succeeds with this ludicrous plan to remove net neutrality, then only the rich firms will be able to reach customers quickly.  The rest of us will be left on the equivalent of the railroad sidings.

It’s time to write your Congressperson, your Senator, and the FCC.  Tell them this plan is absolutely absurd.  To let those companies that can spend megabucks to get faster transmission speeds , while the rest of us are trying to reach our clients and customers using the equivalent of 14.4K modems.  (What?  You aren’t old enough to recall those ee-aa screeches as the two devices tried to connect and let information pass between computers   v  e   r   y      s   l   o   w  l   y.)

The FCC plans to let folks like Disney, Netflix, and Google (plus Macy’s, Target, Amazon, and the like) pay bribes to the internet carriers (like the combined behemoth of TimeWarner-Xfinity, which merger should not be approved either) to let their traffic get to the front of the line.  Just leaving the rest of us commoners worried how we can get our content to our customers, without them losing interest as they wait and wait and wait.

The only people who are going to be happy with this proposal are the internet providers (who will now be getting loads of money for offering toll lanes) and the companies that can afford to pay the tolls.   Consumers will lose their wide choices that currently obtain on the net.  Small companies will be frozen out of the marketplace.

So, why haven’t you written your elected officials yet?  And, don’t forget to write the FCC.
