When I became a biochemical/biomedical engineer some 50 years ago, the focus was on human applications. This was long before genetic engineering, CRISPR, and the like existed in the scientific/technological domain.

First agricultural harvest? Wine!
Who knew that the first attempt at domestic agricultural would not be a wheat crop, but grape vines?

I am sure you all recall that Senator Manchin was a key factor in getting the Inflation Reduction Act (sic) approved by Congress. What you may not recall is that there was another significant actor in that 50 (or 51, when Vice President Kamala Harris is included) votes needed for the reconciliation to be approved.

They VOTE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

The last time I had such a nutty idea, I was in kindergarten.
But, the US Dairy Innovation Center surveyed American adults (yes, adults) only to find that 7% of those surveyed were certain that chocolate milk comes from brown cows. That’s 1 in 14 for those of you who are also numerically challenged.

So, my casual reading in any given day can include the following journals: Microbe, Journal of Bacteriology, Water Reuse, Nephrology News, JASN, JAMA, Harvard Business Review, Strategy+… you get the idea.

Got Milk (Subsidy)?
It’s always amazing to me when I hear certain politicians complaining about the waste in government spending, that our deficit is increasing. Like the past few days, of course. Not because I don’t think they are right- but because these are almost the same guys voting for stupid things- like a milk subsidy.
