You know how we all look for that one key to a problem. Which begs the question- what makes us so sure that it’s just one key?

I have written many times about this. (Here’s one of my first hints.) And, many folks looked askance or made negative comments. But, for those who know me, that didn’t mean I would back down on my scientific hunch. Now, there’s data to substantiate what I felt in my bones.
Cut The Crap!
We’ve seen how many kids in California managed to spread a disease we thought we had nearly eradicated (measles) throughout the population. Because moronic parents bought into conspiracy theories and refused to inoculate their kids. The same results harmed countless Somali kids in Minnesota who were not proffered the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine. All because their parents were convinced that their kids would develop autism due to the vaccination.

What Mom Eats?
This new piece of scientific data may be very traumatic for parents. Or, maybe these results are not translatable from mice to humans, so it’s just a tidbit to share. To be honest, the underlying facts are not totally new- because other research has indicated that dysfunctional immune responses and microbiome (the bacterial population in the gut) composition are related to ASD (autism spectrum disorders).
Now you see it!
Guess what. It may be time to throw out all our anatomy and physiology textbooks. You know, the ones we used in Med school, the ones I used to teach the next generation of health professionals at schools across this great nation. Because there’s been a new discovery- one that will affect how we think about the brain for a long time in the future.
Israeli research may change Alzheimer’s and Autism Incidence
Each week, we learn more and more about how our brains work (or not). And, with that knowledge comes our ability to deal with diseases that have scared us for decades- Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Autism.

A de novo approach…
Autism. News but no real news.
I haven’t written about autism lately. Mostly because there has not been any new research I considered worth sharing with you. But, many of my friends all know that we could easily have been among those diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Because there’s a fine line between high functioning ASD subjects and those of us who managed, through some means or another, to find a way to be who we are and not be so diagnosed.
A test for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)?
Autism. One of the scariest words uttered to a parent. The disease is manifested by poor social interactions (including little verbal communication), and often accompanied with repetitive behaviors by the child. And, the problem is that diagnosing autism spectrum disorders (ASD, as they are formally termed) – at least, right now- requires psychological evaluation by experts, and that typically occurs after the child may be too old to provide it the best chance to develop (almost) normally.
