Bought and Paid For?

So, you voted yesterday.  (You DID vote, right???)  We might learn the results in Georgia (assuming Kemp doesn’t stifle more legal votes), Mississippi, Arizona, Connecticut, and Montana sometime this week.  But, we have learned how much money has played a part in this election.

Self-Drive Act

I’ve written about self-driving trucks.  (Here’s the first of three articles in a recent series.)  And, these are most likely to be the first adopted use of autonomous vehicles. It’s not clear if the tractor (what one calls the “truck” that hauls the trailer) will be autonomous on the highways, only to revert to driver control on the side-streets and within cities- or there will be  a leader vehicle (driven by a human), with a series of autonomous vehicles following the instructions of the lead driver.

Open Season?

I know, I know.  You’ve had it up to here about health care reform.  But, this is important.

We know that the GOP has failed to repeal Obamacare.  We also know that TheDonald will do everything in his power to make it fail- and try to blame that on Obama.  Except any failure will be his fault. But, that’s not the point of this post.  (I will be posting another discussion on this topic in 3 months, when Open Enrollment starts in.)

What Changes Affect My Tax Filing in 2017 (Part VI)

No Gravatar

Come on!  You’ve made it this far.  There’s only one more after today’s blog!

Today, we’ll discuss the changes that the IRS has made in collecting overdue taxes, how we’ll be able (or not) to request (and be granted) extended payment plans, and the changes in the filing dates for some taxes.

The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow. The next day? Hmm

Voting counts. Not just tomorrow (don’t tell me you are not voting!), but every election.

Now, tomorrow, we choose a President, a few Senators, and every Congressperson. That will set how the Federal Government will run for the next two to four years. Pretty important.

This is the fifth and final segment in this mini-series on minimum wage, living wages, the middle class, and taxes that I started this year, beginning on 7 January 2014.

R-I-S-K (don’t shudder- react!)

Most of you know I live in Metropolitan DC.  So, whatever happens in/to/from the Federal government is LOCAL.  Like the shutdown- that cost the DC area more than $ 220 million each and every day in business.  Since there are some 5 million folks living in the Metropolitan area, that’s $ 50 not spent by every man, woman, and child.  OK, that doesn’t sound too bad.  But, there are about 225,000 businesses in the area.  Which means the average business took a hit $ 1000 a day. That is a significant number if you are a small business- even if you are a large one.

237 and counting

Whether or not the Declaration of Independence was issued on 4 July 1776, we have decided to codify that date.  And, that means we celebrate our freedoms on that day- today.  (Thankfully, it is not among those days that Congress, in its infinite wisdom [read as stupidity], elected to move to Mondays, affording a longer weekend.)  We celebrate the day with fireworks, with going to the beach, with barbeques, and with get-togethers.

Really? This is the Fiscal Cliff Act?

No Gravatar

Many of you know I spent a great portion of my life in the dialysis arena.  From the time I was eight years old, I wanted to develop an artificial kidney.  So, I’ve seen a lifetime- and then some- of changes to the therapy.  From the first “washing machine” devices, to flat-plates that required soaking-spreading-tightening, to the disposable devices of today.
