National Newspaper Week

Monday to Saturday, my morning routine is to read a slew of newspapers.  Generally, I start with the Washington Post, followed by the Wall Street Journal, then the New York Times, and the LA Times.  I add a paper or two (Long Beach Press Telegram, Ann Arbor News, Boston Globe to the roster- but I don’t read them from cover to cover.)

Born on the 4th of July

Today is the 4th of July, what we Americans call our Independence Day.  Despite the fact that the Declaration was issued a few days earlier than this some 247 years ago.   And, as was true for Israel when it declared its independence in 1948,   our neighbors weren’t so sure we were independent.  OK. For America, it wasn’t  the “neighbors”- it was Britain.  But, even when Britain conceded it lost the States, it wasn’t until the completion of the War of 1812 that our battle(s) with Britain truly achieved our independence.

Sunday is July 4th, what we Americans call our Independence Day.  Despite the fact that the Declaration was issued a few days earlier than this some 245 years ago.  (The title is the characterization of 245 in base 2; I could have used רמה had I chosen to use Hebrew.)    And, as was true for Israel when it declared its independence in 1948,   our neighbors weren’t so sure we were independent.  OK. The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow. The next day? Hmm

Voting counts. Not just tomorrow (don’t tell me you are not voting!), but every election.

Now, tomorrow, we choose a President, a few Senators, and every Congressperson. That will set how the Federal Government will run for the next two to four years. Pretty important.
