Well, this may put the kibosh on my favorite dinner. One I have enjoyed since I was a tyke.
For years, there have been rumors that eating processed foods is related to obesity. The problem is that there were correlations- but no proof of causation.

What do we do when we just can’t lose weight?
No, don’t tell me we’re not trying hard enough. Some folks have fallen into the black hole of (no) weight loss- metabolic syndrome. I know that sounds like gobbledygook- and to some degree it is. Because it is not an illness per se, but a combination of risk factors that mean the subject is not losing weight, can succumb to heart disease, and/or diabetes.
Not government pork?
I had to call in a lifeline today (when this was written). Because I was reading an article that was ticking me off; it made no sense to me.
Cholesterol in our meals
Yesterday, we spoke about surrogate measurements- and why these don’t always provide the data we seek. Because cholesterol is just that (even though it is cheap and easy)- and does not really tell us the conditions of our heart and circulatory system the way folks believe it does.

Anti-antibiotics?
Well, it IS happening. Big pharma is agreeing to withhold antibiotics from agribusinesses. To be honest, I am pretty surprised. Because, as I wrote some time ago, I thought the FDA’s voluntary request would fall on deaf ears. But, it seems that there will be fewer antibiotics fed to animals. (Notice, I did NOT say NONE.)

Steak and potatoes. (Mine was steak and rice, with sweet potatoes…) Remember that? That used to be the staple diet for most Americans. That was then- when I was growing up…and, sometime in the 80’s and 90’s, our diets began to change.
