It gives me a great feeling when nephrologists and other medical professionals are recognizing that we are not properly educating our kidney failure (ESRD- those with End Stage Renal Disease) patients about all the options they may have.

Just in Time for the 3rd Wave
One of the problems clinicians face when a COVID-19 patient is hospitalized is opining what other complications this patient will present. All too often, kidney failure is among the most common result. (This held for 46% of the patients treated at Mount Sinai, with about 1/3 of them requiring dialysis). The issue is getting the affected patients on dialysis before it’s too late to save their lives.
How long will this take?
Back when I was hot to finish the development of my artificial kidney, a group of patients at Kings County Hospital got together and started one of the very first advocacy groups for folks with a disease. The National Association of Patients on Hemodialysis. From those 6 patients in 1969, who were undergoing dialysis thrice weekly for 12 to 18 hours at a clip (digest that fact for a minute), they involved other patients looking to brainstorm and seek out better alternatives- and changed their name to the American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP).
Not government pork?
I had to call in a lifeline today (when this was written). Because I was reading an article that was ticking me off; it made no sense to me.
Public Benefit and Personal Gain???
Is it fair to work for a new federal program, if it will personally benefit you? Even if it will truly benefit thousands of others? That is something with which I am struggling right now.
