Note: This post was written back on 19 August (the last picture was added this morning, though), when this malarkey ad appeared in the Wall Street Journal. Nothing has happened to change my reaction, for which I decided Labor Day was the proper day for my response to be made public. This great proclamation, all of 300 words, is primarily window dressing. Nowhere will you find the one promise that is needed- to cut executive pay and use those funds to raise worker pay. Just 7 CEO’s refused to sign, but that means that 181 of the Business Roundtable’s 188 members did.

Leading Values
We were working with a new client, helping to set up the systems and find the employees it will need to make the venture a success. During one of the discussions on direction and attitude, the client voiced that our Jewish values were truly helpful. I, for one, did not consider these to be innately Jewish- especially since my business partner of decades agreed with these “credos”- and he is a Southern Baptist. Moreover, I believe every person and company (every company is really a collection of individuals with a common mission) needs to espouse values or credos such as these to succeed. It has nothing to do with one’s religion.
Que Sera, Sera?
Life is different. That’s what everyone says when they’re asked to give millenials advice. Because folks no longer sign on with one employer for life, because our skill sets must change, our needs change.
One-on-One
I just had a great weekend. No, not because I pigged out, attending multiple games at the Phillies ballpark. (Admittedly, that didn’t hurt matters at all.)
Opportunity lost?
This is a problem that most small company leaders have. I fell prey to it once. And, I’ll share my personal experience, as well as this recent experience with a firm where I served as financial manager.
Brand Equity

4 Steps to Success
The job of the entrepreneur and the CEO are similar. They are both charged with energizing their team, keeping them honed to the mission, and to insure the growth and success of their firms.
We resolve…
The job of the entrepreneur and the corporate CEO are similar. They are both charged with energizing their team, keeping them honed to the mission, and with insuring the growth and success of their firms.
Are you “cultured”?
Do you know your corporate culture?
If you are like me, then you certainly do. You also are involved in doing what makes your company great, not sitting back and watch (oh, wait- “manage”) what others do. (You may want to refer back to yesterday’s post about leadership development.)
Do you allow golden calves?
Less than 40 days after the Israelites had their compelling encounter with the Supreme Being, they did something foolish. They constructed a golden calf, an idol, an affront to that very Supreme Being that got them out of slavery and let them cross a sea- unscathed- while the Egyptian army perished in that self-same sea. What leadership lessons can we learn from this?
