So, is this good news or bad news? While the number of dialysis patients is increasing, the rate of annual increase has lessened. Back in 2016, there were 20K new patients, it dropped again last year, and this year the total increase was closer to 14K.

Data Overload? Or, Gimme More?
How we think and act is not something we developed on our own. No, our brains have evolved over the millennia to learn routes, to know where things are, etc. Things that until recently were the critical items in our lives.
What can we learn from this sad event?
It’s been a hell of week. First, my post appeared about the genetic marker for suicide…only to be almost immediately followed by the news that one of my favorite comedians and actors took that path.
All the news that’s fit to print?
Things have been changing. The Ann Arbor News is no longer a daily- but exists on the web. Newsweek has basically disappeared (but would probably still be on the newsstands- at least today- had Sid Harman not met his demise.) The Washington Post makes a profit- because it owns for-profit schools. Everywhere we turn, we hear that our news delivery is changing.
Here we go again…
Most of you know I read the newspaper (ok, three or four) every day. And, today (written 28 October), here was this article. Stunning- isn’t it? Well, forget the headline!
We know your dog fetches the paper…but where do you get your news?
It always amazes me how many folks don’t read newspapers. But, then again, when I travel to places like Podunk, USA and see the local paper, I cringe. But, even in those locations, you can read the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, and/or USA Today (which has better than average business and sports coverage) -but it is not among the normal practices.

Finally- GM’s 1964 World Fair Promise May Be Arriving
I know I am going to date myself (not that kind!), but I still recall with wonder the GM exhibit at the 1964 World’s Fair in New York. It showed the kind of future I think we all hoped for- and never got. Where did our idealism go? However, that’s not the topic for today.
