High Crimes and Misdemeanors?

I had the opportunity a few weeks ago to attend a Salon series. No, not a séance (Random House, the publisher, called the event a ‘Big idea’s Night’.) This  (A Conversation with the Authors of, “IMPEACHMENT: An American History”was an “intimate conversation with writers”- in particular, two of the four authors of Impeachment: An American History. The authors were Jon Meacham, Jeffrey Engel, Peter Baker, and Timothy Naftali. Except only the latter two were present for the discussion.

A Woman Pioneer

So, this holocaust survivor (from Leipzig, Germany) started a company when I was born. One that curried my curiosity enough to have purchased from it more times that I would probably care to admit. And, I was pretty confused as a tyke (I first purchased from this firm when I was 8), thinking I was dealing with a firm in the Virginia suburbs.

This song still seems to be true.

Things have certainly changed. And, not for the better. Last week, I ran a series about wages in America. (I also have a Kindle and a paperback with even more such thoughts available for your reading pleasure.) Corporations are not paying living wages, expecting the middle class to subsidize their profits by providing the funds for food stamps, welfare, and Medicaid for their low-paid staff. It is obvious this is true, since the middle class and the lower class provide more than 1/2 the total federal receipts, with corporations barely providing 10%.
