If you’ve been reading my blog for more than a few months, then you know that I am a strong proponent for the use of stem cells to improve our health.

A (non)shocking experience
Years ago, I had some traumatic accidents. Ones I was very lucky to survive. But, while I survived the experience, there were days when I could barely move. My back hurt so much; more than a few times my children had to call the paramedics to get me transported to the hospital. (I was stuck on the floor, unable to get up.)
Plants have feelings?
So, the concept is that the Supreme Being wanted all of us to be vegetarians. But, the SB also recognized that was not going to be the case. Which is why the SB stipulated that we Jews should only eat animals that were kosher. And, that we should not eat two generations at once- which is part of the reason why we can’t mix milk and meat during a meal. And, that animals must be killed immediately with the sharpest of knives.
Pain and Suffering?
Two of the scariest words in our language when combined? Autoimmune disease. My grandfather died of Parkinson’s disease- one sort of autoimmune disease. My father succumbed to three different autoimmune diseases- all simultaneously attacking his own body. My mom died of autoimmune disease of no known etiology. I probably have an autoimmune disorder already. My former partner has an autoimmune disease. So, it shouldn’t be surprising that I want to know more about these diseases.

Pain Threshold?
I’ve written about my pain threshold before. Where I’ve obtained (now, there’s a verb choice) 3rd degree burns all over my arm and kept on working. Or, broken my leg and kept on going. Well, it turns out that we can train our genes to provide this benefit.
Nauseous?
If you mention chemotherapy, our first mental response is often: Nausea. If I ate potatoes, I’d say it’s like “meat and potatoes”. But, just like I avoid potatoes, there are folks trying to insure that chemo is NOT a hand-in-hand companion to nausea. And, while they’re at it, eliminating morning sickness for pregnant ladies would be another tremendous benefit.
You are (not) a pain in my…
I have broken more than a few bones- more than a few times each. I’ve been in a few wrecks. And, just a few weeks ago, I managed to obtain (now, there’s a verb choice) a second and third degree burn on my left arm. I was stunned- performed the best first aid I could and bundled myself off to the emergency clinic.
Migraines
My business partner for years has suffered from migraines. From that situation alone, I could attest to the debilitating effects of the malady. The fact that 10% of Americans (some 36 million people) also suffer means that many, many days of productive life are affected. And, most of those folks- and more importantly- most of everyone else has the wrong impressions about migraine.
Pain
Pain. Just the word makes us wince. So, just imagine if you were subject to chronic pain. It seems that the more we are subject to pain in a certain region, the lower the threshold for manifesting subsequent pain.
