Hmm. Here’s an interesting bit of history to share.

Now, you are a man (or woman)
It is hard to believe, but my little grandson- the one met when my son and I drove to Cincinnati at the end of March for his brit mila (circumcision)- is now 13 and about to be bar mitzva’ed.
The Feast of Weeks
48, 49, 50!
I already told you about L’ag B’Omer, the 33rd day between Pesach (Passover) and Sh’vuot. Tomorrow, will be the 50th day of that counting period. 50 days after we were freed from Egypt (Mitzrayim- a place of narrow straits), we were waiting by Mount Sinai (sorry- NOT in the “Sinai Peninsula”, more likely in Saudi Arabia, near an active volcano), to receive the 10 Commandments. Where the words were seen- yes, seen. I admit, until I saw the effects of a rocket plant explosion in Henderson, Nevada, I had no idea you really could see “sound”. Not surprising that those in attendance were totally awed…
The first Chanuka?
So, it’s Chanuka. Moreover, tomorrow night (Shabat) and the next day (from Friday night through Sunday at dusk) are also another holiday, the new moon (Rosh Chodesh) of Tevet.
Gafrit v’Aish (Brimstone and Fire)
A few weeks ago, my buddy asked me to pick him up a (treyf) turkey. (No, not a politician, silly!) Shoppers was selling turkey for 39 cents a pound, if you spent a fair amount of money in their shop. Since Shoppers is one of the very few grocery stores to sell a full line of kosher food, it is where I do spend the bulk of my grocery budget.
Sh’vuot- the Feast of Weeks.
48, 49, 50!
We’ve been counting our days since the Pesach (Passover) Seder.
The 3R’s, 3000 years ago?
So, why did I discuss Chanuka a few days early? Because it set the stage for today’s discussion.
Counting to 50
Tomorrow night I will never go to sleep. The day we’ve been waiting for is here. Tomorrow night begins the holiday of Shvuot- the Feast of Weeks.
The first mentor?
Many of you long-time readers know that I try to acquire lessons from the Tora (the Bible) that I can use in everyday life- and in my business situations. Well, in my religion, we were cycling through the portion that deals with Yaakov (Jacob), Lavan (Laban), and the 20+ years of their “association”.
