17 May is now the due date for 1040 tax returnsFirst of all- the IRS has just announced that the deadline for filing personal taxes has been extended to 17 May 2021.  They are having a hard time processing all the stimulus checks- plus the remnants of 2019 tax forms that were mailed in during the coronavirus shutdown.   Use the time wisely- file properly, accurately, and garner all the benefits you deserve!

Shh. Secret Discrimination

I wasn’t going to continue this, but I was having a discussion with my normal coffee buds and this issue came up. And, several folks asserted facts that were plainly untrue. Quoting that Fox News said so. (It turns out that Fox News actually has NEWS programs- and their reporting is pretty darned good. But, the shows- you know, the ones with abrasive personalities at night or blond(e) bimbos [the e is in parentheses to denote either gender] in the morning, the ones that air about 22 hours a day- are NOT news. But, they want you to think they are.)

Part-time hell?

So, yesterday, we discussed the fact that about ½ of all our students in public schools are from below the poverty line.   Of course, once you recognize that basic economic fact, it’s not a big leap to comprehend why so many of our students are not meeting the educational standards we expect.   After all, we’ve known for a very long time that students below the poverty line have more difficulties learning and are more likely to quit school before they graduate high school- in other words, the perfect prescription to perpetuate the poverty problem.

We’re not from the government. We ARE here to help you!

We now have seen how Americans with incomes at the top 1% control the wealth of America.  We have now seen how the top 1% of the world’s income earner’s do likewise for the world.  And, we have seen how it’s just a few companies that control the bulk of the world’s wealth and sales turnover. And, none of these are really the folks that do the bulk of the hiring.  Oh, and the middle class is disappearing from the US- which is the source of political stability and one of the prime drivers to turn our economy around. [These posts are here, here, here, here, here, and here.]

OK. I’m game…Are you?

Our economy is not in the doldrums- that would be an improvement.  And, the problem is that it’s not just us (the US)- there’s Europe, too.  And, with that problem, the potential (really) of the failure of the Euro.  If you don’t think this scenario sounds reminiscent of the interlude between WWI and WWII, then think again.
