So, we celebrate today as our Independence Day. Despite the fact that the Declaration was issued a few days earlier than this some 242 years ago. And, as was true for Israel when it declared its independence in 1948, the neighbors weren’t so sure we were independent. OK. Not the neighbors- Brittain. Sure , it decided to pull out of the States, but the War of 1812 was really the end of our long battle(s) for independence from Brittain.

Medicare sets the tone
One of the key thoughts behind the idea of healthcare reform was to cut the cost of medical care. In America, more than 1 of every 6 dollars we spend is for health related expenses. (It was on track to be one of every 5 by this year- but that was before Obamacare [PPACA] was proposed and enacted.)

No, I did not mistake the beginning of the Gettysburg Address. Instead, I am referring to the birth of the late Reverend Martin Luther King. Who was born into an America that was segregated. And, helped change the policy and practice of that nation.

So, there’s a new book out. Written from the Conservative point of view. “Coming Apart” by Charles Murray. He asserts that we are dividing into a two-caste society. (I don’t disagree- it’s between the rich and not-rich, the educated and the dropout, and still between the White and the non-White. This latter is critical, since it seems that Murray chose his data for the White class.)
