The Knowledge Effect- Really, not just an advertisement

Just so you know, I don’t generally write my blogs on the day you see them.  It gives me time to digest my thoughts and reconsider them- it’s amazing how brilliant things appear when first coined, but on second glance fail to impress.   This is not one of those times.  (No, this is not an apology for poor writing.)

Today, during a status meeting, I saw an advertisement. (O.K., , I told you I time slice!)  It became the focus of a small discussion.  A fairly well known publishing house was describing why you needed their services.  And, on the face of it- the advertisment looked compelling; but, in actuality, the concept they propose is destined to fail each enterprise or person that adopts it as a guideline.

The advertisement described a principle of operation that is based on order and not chance; extracting patterns from chaos; shared insights; transparency of execution; and the fact that knowledge makes all things possible.  We agree.  But, we disagree that having all the data in the world at one’s fingertips affords one insight, knowledge, and/or intelligence. We enhance the actions of all components

We believe- and provide our services to our clients in such fashion- as to employ knowledge to the situation- at it exists presently and under various future scenarios.  These actions require not only the ability to harness data (which simply is the random – or even arranged- collection of facts, numbers, and impressions) toward the mission and goals of the person or the enterprise.  It requires the continual re-alignment to the mission and goals, using the information at hand, since reality and design are not always in concert.

Employing knowledge cogently (they termed it “the knowledge effect”) leads to effective actions.  Whether you use our services or not (and, why don’t you????), that is the critical path for any person, team, department, enterprise, or government.  We need to continually evaluate our actions, align them with our goals, using the knowledge at hand.  The Adjuvancy, with our breadth of knowledge, experience, and expertise, work to enhance the activities of all the components to achieve the maximum success.  That’s the point of accumulating data- to be able to use it quickly, effectively, and at the minimum cost.

Accumulating data -even it is at one’s fingertips- without the ability to sort out relevancy and apply same- is not intelligence.  Harnessing information quickly and effectively to achieve one’s goals and mission is the only way.

I stand fully behind this statement.
