Today is the Ides of March.  No, I am not referring to the Julius Caesar masterpiece by Shakespeare (or the history to which it refers).   Today is the due date for business tax returns.  1065 1041 1120 1120S form

If you haven’t filed your return yet, you have until midnight tonight to complete your masterpiece.  I have been working on a slew of them for weeks.

If you operate a pass-through entity, you need to complete YOUR business tax return so that your stockholders can file their personal tax returns in a timely fashion.   Because they need the K-1 form you will provide to complete their tax.  Which is why the IRS really frowns upon those firms that fail to meet the deadline.  Because that failure cascades manifold.

But, if you are just a regular person, remember that you have been afforded three bonus days this year.  Not just did you get 29 February from leap year, but because of the vagaries of the calendar, your personal tax returns are not due until the 18th of April this year.  (You DO know thatyou should have aid all your taxes that were due by 15 January right?)

And, because this year was a Jewish leap year, it means that my religious practices are not going to interfere with my ability to complete client’s tax returns.  Since Passover is “really late” this year (only on the English calendar; it’s always on the 15th of Nissan)- it doesn’t  start until 22 April this year.

So, get cracking.  Finish your tax returns- NOW!
