And, for this criminal act…

It’s happening again.

Most of you know that I am generally a fan of the US Postal Service.  I don’t think service should be cut to 5 days a week.   (But, if they did, I think Wednesday is the right day to cut- not Saturday.  As it is, many of my newspapers [theoretically printed LOCALLY on Thursday] arrive Saturday or even Monday.  Without Saturday delivery, I will probably cancel their subscriptions, since I, unlike my father, don’t read news that is a week old.)

Wine, diamonds, but not roses…

Ah, the trials and tribulations of shipping valuable objects.

I remember sending a palm pilot to my daughter. Which was “delivered”. Except, it was really just dropped off at her doorstep. Before she got home, it was gone. Eventually, I got UPS to pay up. They tried to claim they had no responsibility. Like, it was only their job to drop off the box.

Rampant Bribery

So, many of you many of heard of the quixotic quest a law prof at Fordham effected a month or two ago.  Dr. Zephyr Teachout ran against Andrew Cuomo for the Democratic Gubernatorial slot.  While many expected her to garner about 25% of the vote, she did manage to tally about 35%, primarily as a result of the ethics issues swirling about Cuomo.

Is this the one?

The economy is changing. Folks are actually starting to get hired. And, I know two folks who are in that predicament. One is a lovely young woman (let’s call her Deb) about to garner her first professional job (after college)- while she toils away at my coffee spot- St. Elmo’s. The other is a lawyer (we’ll call her Edna) who relocated to DC for a family emergency and is seeking a healthcare related post.

Another one?

Yes, it’s another holiday.  Tonight starts Sukot- the full moon holiday of Tishrei.  (By the way- did you catch the lunar eclipse this morning?)  After finishing our 40 days of introspection, which culminated in the most solemn full day of fasting for Yom Kipur, we now have the holiday of joy.  (Sukot has another name- the Time of Celebration.)  Sukot is one of the three “festivals” delineated in the Tora, the Bible.

It’s time. No excuses.

Here’s a contrarian view to what so many politicians want you to believe.  We must provide a social safety net for the poor.  We must find a way to educate parents – and to find a means to let them have enough time- in between their two and three shifts of (part-time work)- to spend “quality time” with their kids.   We must fund early childhood education.

I stole this from Barry Ritholtz

I’ve been reading Barry Ritholtz’ column in the Washington Post for years.  I find his financial discussions erudite- and clearly written.  Which is how I try to communicate with you.  But, his blog today (when this was written) was of a different focus.    He stated what he has learned from writing his 30,000 blog posts.  (He has me beat by some 28,500!)   And, I agree with much of what he wrote, which I will share with you now (with my twist, of course)!
