Many of you know, I have served as the CFO for a few legal firms. One of my longest affiliations was with a family law practice. (Don’t you just love that euphemism… family law, aka divorce. One of the most contentious of all law practices.)

I’m not Paul Harvey- but this IS the rest of the story
I remember having sets of Corningware. One for meat and one for dairy. But, at the time, I really didn’t think they would be among my last. Even though I had a part in that revolutionary change. Just because Corning was glassware- and Corningware was ubiquitous.

Soil. Water. Air?
I remember. From when I was really little, my dad took over the left side of the house for his garden. Where he would spend hours every spring, summer, and fall growing vegetables.
Veteran’s Day. Almost 100 years old…
It was on the 11th hour of the 11th month in 1918 that “The Great War” ended. The first World War (no one expected the second- but they should have) was called that back then. It’s the name my father learned, too- and it was among the last sanctioned battles in which my grandfather (my mother’s father) was a participant.
Harness, not Repress
I’m old enough that I was spared the craze of this generation. The diagnosis of ADD or ADHD (attention deficit disorder or attention-deficit-hyperactivity disorder). It spared my elder children, as well- but my youngest was born when such diagnoses were far more prevalent.

A new way to fight pests?
Way back in the 70s and 80s, when I was heavily involved with fixed media waste treatment systems for water reuse, we had a problem. Many of those facilities had fly infestations. So, we began adding Bacillus thuringiensis (BT) microbes to the mix. These microbes secreted a chemical that took care of the flies. (We actually manufactured the microbial mutants on peanut hulls, which kept the microbes on the surface of the water (peanut hulls tend to float).
At least someone is upgrading infrastructure
I’ve written about our infrastructure failures. In particular, how we have not upgraded our electrical transmission systems to preclude hacking or terrorist attacks. There have been attacks (for example in California) that took the power station off line for a month. That attack destroyed some 17 transformers and left parts of Silicon Valley in the dark.

Brands Count!
Yesterday, I told you to vote. No, I didn’t ask you. I meant it- it’s your civic duty. I had a close friend who never voted for decades. Yet, he felt free to bitch and moan about what was happening. I made it clear that if he did nothing, he agreed with whatever results ensued- and had no right to complain. It’s his job to vote- and make sure change can occur.
Tomorrow
I don’t understand why so many Americans think that voting only counts when it’s a Presidential election. Because every single election counts.
