I’ve written that it’s probably the end of an era at St. Elmo’s. Not that the new owners have made lots of changes (except to the charge card system- but that may be just a minor glitch) and a vendor switch (you knew they would want to use their own restaurants to provide the sandwiches).

Opportunity lost?
This is a problem that most small company leaders have. I fell prey to it once. And, I’ll share my personal experience, as well as this recent experience with a firm where I served as financial manager.
Oxygen to the rescue?
I’m not a football player (by a long shot) or a soldier. But, I’ve certainly had my share of concussions. (I still have the gnarly bumps on my noggin from several of them.) No. Actually, I’ve had more than enough concussions- no one needs a share of this trauma. But, some 1.7 million folks are diagnosed with concussions each year.
And, this is one of our better ones?
Yesterday, I spoke about our most endangered aquifers. But, almost every one of our aquifers is in trouble- the sources of the bulk of our drinking water.

It’s been three years since I complained that no one seems to be paying attention to our water resources. No, I don’t mean like the drought in California. That’s bad. But, worse will be the wars that are about to fought over water.
Overnight success?
I often work with companies helping them develop- and introduce- new products. There’s a litany of zany ideas- at least that’s what they were called when we first introduced them.

We all have big goals when we start businesses. We want to grow our company, if we are an entrepreneur; if we are a solopreneur, then we want to be able to do what we want- and have enough money and time to do so.

Traffic in the DC area sucks. No, I am not telling you something you haven’t read in the papers. Our area is having a race to determine whose traffic is worse- and we’ve been neck and neck with the LA area. That should tell you plenty.
Hey, business owner- this affects you!
There is a penalty that can be imposed as of 1 July 2015 to small business employers who reimburse employees for premiums paid for individual health insurance policies under Obamacare (PPACA). Yes, that means if you don’t offer insurance because your state does not offer plans for small employers and the various insurance companies charge rates that are outrageous, you can still be penalized.
