Today is the last business day (but not the last day) of Elul. As such, I am nearing the end of my annual introspective season. Sunday night (all Jewish days begin at night; the Tora says, “There was evening, there was morning, one day”) is Rosh Hashana (the Jewish New Year).
I know most of you are not Jewish. (After all, only 2% of Americans are- with an even lower percentage of humans worldwide.) But, I do know that many of you begin your new companies this time of year. Whether that is because you plan to get a piece of government largesse (and the government fiscal year starts this Sunday) or because your kids started school and you now have a little more time to push the envelope is immaterial.
We talked about the desecration of the American Dream yesterday. As I said, before Reagan assumed the presidency, the 1%ers garnered 7% of after tax income in the US. 28 years later, that share had multiplied by 2.5X- so that the 1%ers collected 17% of the total income.
It’s virtually complete. The change in America that Ronald Reagan wanted. To make American’s totally distrust their government. (Cut the bullshit. You know what he said: “Government is not the solution to our problem. Government is the problem.” Oh, and for all the crap about his capabilities- the deficit doubled under his tenure. As opposed to dropping deficits for the two Democratic Presidents since his tenure.)
