There was no moon last night. 15 days ago was the last supermoon of 2017. But, what makes this special? In my religion, each new moon is a special holiday called Rosh Chodesh, the start of a new month.

ROIC?
For those of you who have been invested in GE for years, mostly because of its generous dividend, the times have changed. No longer will GE be providing a 4 to 5% return on your stock holdings. No, it now will be closer to a 2% dividend rate. Which is among the several reasons the stock price has tanked recently.

Now, here’s a great combination of technology. Biochemical engineering and additive manufacturing. What’s that you say? Too much technical jargon?

O, Chanuka, O Chanuka, Come light the menora…
Tonight will be the first night of Chanuka, the 25th day of Kislev. For those of you who celebrate Christmas, you might recognize that number- 25. That date wasn’t chosen by accident by the first Christians. (It also explains why this is one of the few- the very few- holidays Christians celebrate on the “eve”- because it derives from the Jewish rule that a day is one evening and one morning….)

Way, way back when I was about 7 years old, I was mesmerized with a new arrangement of Count Basie’s music. Not done by the Count himself, but a group (that I learned much later on) was called Lambert, Henricks, & Ross (LHR). What they had done was overdub all the Basie Project’s music, recreating the concept of the big band sound using only their voices. By the time I knew the group’s name, the album had been redone- with Count Basie playing along. LHR was generally considered to be the most influential singing group in jazz history. (It was also one of the first integrated groups, to boot!)
Will you try this?
Rat poison. Yes, rat poison. Until recently it was the ONLY drug (which means something different from the drug of choice) to counter potential blood clotting in humans who undergo dialysis and/or transplantation. Other folks took the drug to avoid cardiovascular complications because they had artificial heart valves or a condition called atrial fibrillation, among other situations.
Poof! They’re gone!
I was reading one of my favorite “popular” (non-technical) magazines the other day. In particular, the 27 November 2017 issue of Business Week.
