22 August

My life changed more than 3 decades ago.  The night (and day and night) that it took my eldest daughter to enter this world.

It was scary.  Not just because I could fly around the world in less time than she managed to traverse the birth canal.  Not just because my hands were being clenched by my (then) wife with a strength and clawed by nails I never knew she had.  But because her APGAR score was 1.

But, other than that, that was the only low score she has provided herself or this world.  A super student. (Charlottesville High School, Columbia University,  Jewish Theological Seminary)  A super employee (March of Dimes, University of Alabama).  A super manager.  (Keeping this quiet- so her privacy is protected.)  A super wife.  And, a super mom.

Yes, I am very proud.  Not that I had a lot to do with it. We, as parents, can only provide guidance.  It’s the child, and then the adolescent, and finally the adult who makes the grade themselves.  Oh, sure, it takes a village- but not without the perseverance, talent, and effort of the individual.

To my little (yes, you will always be little in my eyes) Rose Feather, you will never be considered like Last Year to anyone.

Oh, those are inside jokes.  My daughter’s name is Shoshana Avrah (Rose Feather), or as shortened to shortened to Shana Avrah (the honomym means Last Year)….

  1. Happy birthday to your daughter. She has a beautiful name! Our daughters will always be our little girls no matter how old they get. And truthfully, I don’t think they would like it any other way.
