Hell, no, we won’t go! That call from the 60’s still resonates- and to some folks it’s like chalk screeching on the blackboard. To others, it’s a mantra that still sets one’s daily actions.

STEM<>Political correctness
I grew up in the greater New York Metropolitan area. I strongly considered various high schools to continue my private school education. I was lucky in that my “grade school” (K-9) offered instruction in many areas that left me ahead of my “normal’ grade- way ahead. I considered going to another private religious high school and to the Bronx High School of Science, among many others. I ended up not going to any of them- not because I didn’t want to, but because of the costs.
Follow Me
Leadership. Many of us talk about it. Some of us exercise it. We all need to learn more about it- not because we will all be leaders, but so that we can understand and recognize true leadership- and follow those who can help us reach new heights. Continue reading Follow Me
Sewage as an energy source?
One of my theses involved the conversion of Honest-to-Goodness Solid Waste (HGSW) to energy. The process made sense then- and makes even more sense now. (Believe it or not, there’s only one company examining this process on a large scale, some 4 decades later.) But, we also need to treat our liquid wastes (sewage)- because we want to keep our rivers and streams (which is where we discharged those treated waters) safe. Amazingly, we employ about 2% of our energy supply to treat this waste stream.
Narrow straits
Tonight begins (or, at least it would be on the day I wrote this) the Seventh Day of Pesach (Passover). One of my favorites. No, not because this holiday of eating matza is almost over. And, I’ve already celebrated and exalted over the Freedom that the Supreme Being provided me, my family, my relatives, and my ancestors on the first days of the holiday.
Take your medicine!
We all (ok, 80+% of us, including our employers) pay for health insurance so that we have it when and if we need it. And, we expect that insurance to cover our costs (less a deductible), when we do need it.
I didn’t write this!
Dear Dennis.
The man who might have written on this card once controlled Europe- three short years ago when you were born. Today, he is dead, his memory dispised (sic), his country in ruins He had a thirst for power, a low opinion of man as an individual, and a fear of intellectual honesty. He was a force for evil in the world. His passing, his defeat– a boon to mankind. But, thousands died so it might be so. The price for ridding society of bad is always high.

Daddy
You will tell the truth!
We have seen that our ability to detect lies is somewhat circumspect. The conventional polygraph is dependent upon the skill of the technician; its accuracy ranges from 65% to 90%. This is about the range for some of the newer devices (e.g., the Ugail device).
WTF? Elul????
Bye, Bye, Viri!
Drs. Rider, Zook, Boettcher, Wick, Pancoast, and Zusman took my breath away today (11 August 2011). These MIT researchers may have developed a “broad-spectrum” anti-viral and published the results in PLoSOne. That’s right- it kills many different kind of viri. Just like penicillin was able to do against bacteria.
