Labor Day. I’m surprised it still exists. Given the political climate in this country- where labor is neutralized, vilified, denigrated, and blamed for the ills of the enterprise or government. Because one can do so- and it’s easier to blame someone else (and not take responsibility for one’s own failings).
The first Labor Day was celebrated 130 years ago in New York City. The first state to ordain the day was Oregon in 1887 (5 years later), followed by New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Colorado within twelve months of that.
And, now, Labor Day is a signal that summer is over. (Yes, I know it’s over on 22 September- but not if you are a student.) School starts. New cycles begin.
But, we don’t honor our workers on Labor Day. Maybe this is a good year to start. Because without our workers, our economy is dead in the water. They are the ones who spend the money to keep the economy going- as long as the party of the “job creators” stops laying them off and helping companies cut wages so that executives can get more bonuses or hoard trillions in cash.
Happy Labor Day…

Let’s face it. Employees need to have employers. Let’s hope the employers get enabled.
