She shall be missed

To the World... Tikun olam

That quote has been one of my favorites since my kids were tykes. It’s the epitome of the mission that we have been provided by the Supreme Being…תיקן עולם..Perfecting the world. Hashem created the world in 6 days, rested on the 7th, and left us the task to make this world better each day.

Yesterday, the 14th of November, the 16th day of Cheshvan, the world lost a soul. Oh, sure, the world loses souls every second of every day. And, sure, this person was as the quote above says, simply one person. But, maybe it’s time we reconsider how we look at ‘just one person”.

Patricia "Trish" Trollinger Harper

Patricia Perry Trollinger Harper, “Trish” to most of us, left this earth. After battling cancer and losing. The youngest sister of the Trollinger clan. A name many of us don’t know- unless you are familiar with North Carolina and Elon College (now University), founded by a land grant from the Trollinger family.

My ex-wife assumed the motherly tasks for her family at the age of 14. Trish was 1 year old or so at the time. So, she’s always been the baby of the family.

Trish Perry Band

Trish fell in love with music. And, acted on it. She had a band for as long as I’ve known her- and that totaled more than 3 decades.

She was head over heels in love with Jeff Harper. At first, the family wasn’t happy- since Jeff was older than Trish. But, that changed- thankfully. Especially since  Jeff is another gentle, quiet soul who we all would simply walk by without taking any notice. But, his strength and his code gave strength to the extended family.

When my son took the plunge, when he asked the love of his live, Stefanie, to marry him, he invited both families- The Seigermans, me, and his mom to celebrate the occasion, to meld the families together- at a destination. (They live in New York. My ex and I live in Virginia.) But, there were two other folks there. Trish and Jeff.

Dan & Trish

Trish is the only person from my ex’ family with whom I kept in contact. And, her death leaves me with tears falling down my cheeks.  (Which may be appropriate today, since it is the day the rains began, the 40 days and 40 nights of the Flood.)  But, mostly because Trish was a gentle, giving soul.

May her memory be a blessing and continue to bring a smile to those who knew her.Roy A. Ackerman, Ph.D., E.A.

  1. Deepest sympathy on your loss. Now I feel her loss, too, and feel that the world is a lesser place because of her going, but a greater place because of her having been here.

  2. So sad when I hear about people leaving so soon from cancer. I hope and pray that both a cure and way to prevent cancer will be seen in the future. Maybe not mine, but we need to see this. So sorry Roy.
