This post is an experiment. You’ve heard and probably watched a TV/Radio Simulcast. Well, Elise Boysaw (KESA Collections) had this great idea to have a blog post written about the subject of her newest painting, 65 degrees. (Yes, Elise uses Fahrenheit; I use Centigrade.) So, I am writing this post about sleep.
We all know that when we are awake, our normal temperature is 37 C (98.6 F). But, to get our body ready for sleep, our brain causes our body temperature to drop by about a degree (to 36 C). This slows down metabolism, so that we can have a restful sleep.
And, while we are at it, we should consider our pillows. So many people have been sucked in to buying those “Memory Pillows”, the ones that conform to your body. The problem is that they do- and they wrap about your head, making you too hot. So, you DON’T get a good night’s sleep.
We also should consider wearing socks when we sleep. Oh, I know, that’s not highly romantic. (I was married to a woman who wore Dr. Denton’s. [I ruined my fair share of them, too.]) But, cold feet are really not very conducive to a good sleep. So, if you find your feet are cold- or you wake up in the middle of the night, try wearing socks- you may find this non-romantic endeavor puts you in a much better mood for the whole day, since you got that good night’s sleep.
The bedroom temperature is also important. (No, not THAT temperature, silly!) Most physicians recommend dropping the temperature to 20 C (68 F), but the range is 18 to 22 C (65 to 72 F). You need to find the proper one- hopefully, it’s not like those number beds, where each of you have different optimum temperatures….
Finally, you should remember that it’s best to sleep in a “cave-like” room. One that is dark, quiet, cool, and relatively dry (like 50% relative humidity). This also lets you get the proper amount of sleep.
