Let me reiterate.  I am not a proponent of an increase in the minimum wage.  Instead, I advocate for all large ($ 2.5 million in gross sales or 50 employees, which ever threshold is exceeded) firms to be penalized (that’s 110% to 125% of the costs) when their employees need to rely on AFDC (Aid For Dependent Children), SNAP (the new name for Food Stamps), Medicaid, etc. to make up for an employer not paying a living wage to its staff.

A Promise Kept- but one that ruined America

It’s virtually complete.   The change in America that Ronald Reagan wanted.  To make American’s totally distrust their government.  (Cut the bullshit.  You know what he said:  “Government is not the solution to our problem.  Government is the problem.”  Oh, and for all the crap about his capabilities- the deficit doubled under his tenure.  As opposed to dropping deficits for the two Democratic Presidents since his tenure.)

I’ve talked often about the abrogation of the social contract that obtained between companies, their employees, and their communities.  That schism- advocated by Dr. Milton Friedman– has been accompanied by the erosion of the US middle class and the flattening of wages (except for corporate executives).

Teach your children well…

Despite what Tim Montgomerie claimed in his Wall Street Journal piece (discussed last week), the facts are that there real problems exist in America- and the world over.  We are not deluded with our thinking that the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer or that corporations are evading their financial responsibility to their employees and to our communities.
