Medicaid Expansion

So, when the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was passed, it had a Medicaid component.  It was left to the states to add that component as a benefit to their residents; if chosen, it would alter the way Medicaid reimbursement worked in that state.

Affordable Care Act, Medicaid, and the Pandemic Emergency

We’ve spoken how the Inflation Reduction Act (sic) includes many provisions that were started when the pandemic hit; in this case, an increased subsidy for those signing up for the Affordable Care Act.  Had the Inflation Reduction Act not been passed, those folks would have seen a tremendous increase in the costs of their health insurance.  And, with the public health emergency declaration, the ability to enroll in Medicaid was enhanced (and now continued)- so much so that 88 million folks are so enrolled (a 17% increase since the start of the pandemic in February 2020).

What Hath Obamacare Wrought?

I know, I know, I’m old.

Back when I was considering colleges, this place was called Drexel Tech. Even when I applied to grad/med schools, that’s what it was.
Now, it’s Drexel University- a hop, skip, and jump away from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.  (Right next door to Union Station- the grand railroad depot- in Philly, too!)  And, it even houses a medical school- and a school of public health now!

Hurry Up. Less than 45 days left

It starts.  Today is the beginning of open season.  Time to choose our health care plan.  Or, if you are like me and entitled to Medicare, today is the day to decide to ADD to the mandated service.  Because years ago, the government cut Medicare provisions.  Now, we need to choose a drug plan and a Medicare Advantage plan to cover all those things that aren’t covered.  Or pay through the nose.

Here we go again.  Not only, as I’ve reported before, has TheDonald shortened the open season for PPACA (Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare), but he and his minions have been hard at work to prove that it is failing.  By making it fail- or at least continually trying to kill it.
