We spoke about the Aduhelm fiasco about two weeks ago.

Hope or Chimera for Alzheimer’s Patients?
Hmm. Is this good news or not?
The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has just approved aducanumab (Aduhelm) for Alzheimer’s. Of course, if you are Biogen, this is great news. But, since the data is – how do I say this?- less than emphatic- will this really help patients?
Retinal Screening?
I miss Dr. Duskas. For years, he was my eye doctor. Of course, he was entitled to retire, but I still miss him. He replaced Dr. Curtis Bare, my eye doctor for the 13 years I lived in Charlottesville.
A Blood Test?
Now we know there is a link between our gut and Alzheimer’s disease, as we saw in yesterday’s post.
Pulling an Allnighter Just Got a Little More Complicated
This is just one study. And, a preliminary one. But…
A little background. I have often spent two or three days in a row working out the kinks in a design. Read that statement more correctly as 48 to 70 hours non-stop. No sleep.

The Wave Sweeps Clean
One of the functions of a “good night’s sleep” is that our brain becomes ready to handle what we throw at it the next day.
Pop goes the weasel?
And the data keeps piling on.
Two years ago, I shared the data that pop is simply something we shouldn’t include in our- and especially our kids’ diets. Yes, I know- up until two decades ago, I was imbibing gallons of pop each and every day. (At least 6 liters of Diet Coke and about 24 ounces of Chocolate Cherry pop.) But, I stopped- cold turkey. (So should you!)
Dormant but deadly
We spoke on Friday about microbes that hide themselves in our body. Waiting for the right opportunity to infect our body with diseases- coronary disease, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s, renal failure, macular degeneration, even some cancers.
Bug invasions
Every once in a while, I realize that the path I chose for my life has been pretty fortuitous. Sure, I had two failed marriages (one clearly my fault; the other clearly not)- but I was awarded three fantabulous children as a result, so- on balance- I still consider them fortuitous.
A blood test for Alzheimer’s?
Now, we have to wonder…
If they really have developed a blood test that can indicate if we are going to develop Alzheimer’s disease, do we want to take it? After all, we have no method of curing Alzheimer’s- nor do we even have a process by which we can ameliorate the symptoms. (Protein clumps appear in the brain some 20 years before folks manifest memory loss and/or confusion. And, not all patients with amyloid clumps manifest Alzheimer’s. But, really, PET- positron emission tomography, a brain scan- is the only foolproof method to scan for Alzheimer’s now. And, a PET scan is very expensive- on the order of $ 5K.)
