Infrastructure bill brings Amtrak improvements.

Slow, but sure.

It really is annoying when promised improvements take a year or two longer than was promised .  That’s exactly where Amtrak stands regarding the introduction of its new Acela trains.   We had been promised the new rail cars would be on the tracks this whole year- yet, we anxiously await improved service on this expensive (and almost fast) service to arrive in seven or so months hence.

Someone’s in the kitchen with Dinah (not)

Some three decades ago, I began commuting from Charlottesville to Washington, DC, in particular to George Washington University. Being a train buff- and with an accommodating schedule- my trips were via the famed Southern Crescent. This glorious train made the round trip between DC and New Orleans.

I’ve been working on the railroad

I have always loved railroads.

Back when I was really little, my grandparents would post my high chair by the rear window of their co-op.  And, I would watch one of the busiest rail yards in America for hours.  (No, folks.  The Pennsylvania Railroad is long gone.)

I’m sure you’ve heard that a near miracle has occurred.   No, not the miracle of Chanuka that let the menora stay lit for eight days. I’m talking about the transportation bill that finally passed both houses of Congress- and actually funds the program for more than a few weeks.  Yes, indeed, we have a FIVE year transportation bill.

Choo Choo!

I have always been in love with trains.  When I was really little (maybe that’s where I caught the bug), I would sit for hours at my grandparents’ window looking down at the Pennsylvania Railroad freight yards.  I was mesmerized by the shenanigans of the locomotives, freight cars, Railway Express trucks- the whole shebang.
