Today is actually Martin Luther King’s birthday. (No, it’s not next Monday. That’s just the convenient choice the government makes to provide a 3 day weekend. [That also coincides with the (racist) holiday that obtained in Virginia for more than a century- the Lee-Jackson day, theoretically celebrating the two Confederate generals, but really promoting the hagiography of the racist South.) Had King not been murdered (and, of course, were still alive), he would be 91 today.

Permission Granted
Time to break into my queue. Because in the past 10 days, the United States has been hit at least twice by terrorists. Maybe 3 times.
Stand Up! Now!
It’s not often that I break into my queue. Not because I am rigid- but because there often is not a special reason to say something right NOW.
Hatred of Others MUST Cease.
So, today is “fake” Columbus Day. Another example of our government manipulating events so we have 3 day weekends. The real Columbus Day is Friday- right after the new moon of (Mar) Cheshvan. It has the moniker ‘Mar’ (bitter) because it is the month of the flood- the one Hashem inflicted upon the world (or certainly the bulk of the Middle East)- way back when.
Running amok?
You have to be carefully taught. Being given a green light makes the situation worse.
What am i talking about? Racism. Nazism. Fascism. And, I know a bunch of you are going to switch sites now, because you hate being preached to. Because you want to keep onto your hate.
It continues!
Given the events of this past weekend in Charlottesville, I decided to break into my queue.
After all, I lived there for 13 years. And, one of my finest accomplishments there (other than the birth of my two daughters and a slew of great products) was bringing life to the 150 year old synagogue there. Jeff Poelvoorde and I spent months convincing folks to come to a traditional Saturday morning service. And, with time, a wonderful Jewish community- shared lives, families, food- developed. And, continues there still some 3 decades later.
Frankfurt to Auschwitz
What are we to expect? We get up early, after reaching Krakow at nearly 1 AM. Not the time we expected, but with all the construction on the various arteries leading to the city from Frankfurt, less than surprising.
Otherism
Too many folks think fake news is a new phenomenon. It is not. The concept of fake news is almost always involved with the cancer of “otherism”. Otherism is a means whereby folks (and governments) blame the ills of society on someone else.
Walks like a duck. Talks like a duck…
NOTE: I have had enough. I must speak out. NOW.
I have written before about my experiences as a child and young adult. (I also spoke about groups spewing hatred. Also here.) Where, despite living in Metropolitan New York, my neighborhood was 99.9% Catholic, Irish and Italian. And most of the kids went to Catholic school, where they were taught that the Jews killed Christ. And, my brother and I were explicitly taught that we were going to be the targets of their vengeance.
It’s still BS if you apologize AFTER your bias is proven
Today is one of my favorite holidays. Yes, we Jews have a slew of holidays. And, given we’ve just survived Snowzilla2016, thinking about this holiday really feels a bit bizarre.
