No, this blog is not about a rock star nor an actor, but we all should recognize his passing. Dr. Robert Schattner (he was born Isaac, but changed his name, while he attended the University of Pennsylvania Dental School) died the 29th of January (the second day of Shvat in the Hebrew calendar), at the age of 91, due to kidney failure.
What is happy? Well, when I am with my kids, you can bet that I know exactly why that is. But, when they leave (or I leave their abodes), does that mean I’m not happy?
I live in DC. One of the three cities in the US (the other two are Los Angeles and New York City) where extravagant events are held often. All ostensibly arranged to raise money for great causes.
For years, various patient advocate groups have been helping folks get health insurance. In particular, the AKF (American Kidney Fund) has been paying the premiums for folks who are undergoing dialysis.
Yesterday, I spoke about the Gates/Buffett initiative. That philanthropic concept certainly makes a big splash. One the world recognizes.
Yesterday, I spoke about the need for us to donate to charity. Many of us do that because we want to help those less advantaged than ourselves, others do so to save money on their taxes. Today, I’ll talk about the what Mark Zuckerberg (and his wife, Dr. Priscilla Chan) recently announced- after I introduce the Gates/Buffett pledge program.
It’s that time of year. The end of the year. When everyone all of a sudden realizes they may owe a lot of taxes and want desperately to change that situation.
I have several clients who were actively engaged in some causes. And, that led them to decide to start their own charitable foundations.
Since today is Christmas- which means that many of you are in the mood for receiving- maybe I can entice you to engage in the act of giving. Besides, it’s the end of the year and so many of you just realized that your tax situation needs to be addressed. (If you were my clients, you would be reminded of this aspect- and how to save the big bucks all year round.)
