The other BSO
While I am not enamored of baroque classical music (it is baroque, right?), I do enjoy a great symphonic performance. When I was little, it was Leonard Bernstein who introduced the famous dead to me. It was somewhat comical to my friends and family to hear me listening to piece recommended by Mr. B- whilst my radio (tuned to 1010WINS, of course) was belching tunes broadcast from Alan Freed’s or Murray the K’s fantastic shows.
What’s trending today?
Way back when I was still having kids (no, not me, silly- my wife), I noticed the crazy trends in kids names. (I didn’t fall prey to that trend- but mostly because I used religious names for my kids. Yet, my middle daughter got caught up in that – because of a TV program She-Ra, Princess of Power. Wrong spelling, right sound.)
A little perspective?
Thursday, 26 September 2013 (or Friday, depending where you were in the world) was Simchat Tora- the rejoicing of and in the Tora. On that holiday, we read the last section of the Tora and immediately start anew with the first. From Zot HaBracha (Deuteronomy 33-34) to Breishit (Genesis 1-6:8).

I have been a theater lover since forever. When I was a teenager, I availed myself of the myriad opportunities in New York City- one of them being that students could see a play for $ 3 a pop routinely. The theater is one of the things I truly miss by being an “ex-“New Yorker. (DC is working hard to remind me how much I “love” traffic snafus, however…) But, enough of where I live or lived.
