It gives me a great feeling when nephrologists and other medical professionals are recognizing that we are not properly educating our kidney failure (ESRD- those with End Stage Renal Disease) patients about all the options they may have.

Kidney Transplant Criteria
I just read an article (that is now being broadcast from newspapers, radio, and TV- remember, this post was written weeks ago) that really ticked me off. Supposedly, it is good science. And, it may be- as long as we get (as Paul Harvey used to say) “the rest of the story”.
What Hath Obamacare Wrought?

Back when I was considering colleges, this place was called Drexel Tech. Even when I applied to grad/med schools, that’s what it was.
Now, it’s Drexel University- a hop, skip, and jump away from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. (Right next door to Union Station- the grand railroad depot- in Philly, too!) And, it even houses a medical school- and a school of public health now!

Way, way back in the 1960s and 1970s, the NIDDK (National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, a unit of the National Institutes of Health [NIH]) ran a series of programs to promote the development of better treatments to address kidney failure.
