It’s not high finance

Back when I went to school, we had to learn about the stock market and family budgets.

We were provided $ 1000 in funny money.  And, we could buy stocks, puts, or calls.  (Back when I went to school, you had to buy stock in lots of 100, which is why we were given that quantity of funny money.   Nowadays, we can buy a single share of stock.)  The contest revolved about the person with the highest balance after two months would win.

Teenage Employment

So, I was examining some publications from UVa recently and found one really interesting. Up until I realized it was really from the gin mill run by Rick Berman. (I‘ve written about Rick Berman and his Employment Policies Institute . But, most of the time, the articles (biased and conclusions developed BEFORE the research is completed) are written by a different author. As such, I kept reading- and now will share them with you. I will be editorializing at points- but, as opposed to Berman’s minions, I will make sure you know when, where, and why.)

Most of you know that I have taught at various colleges and universities.  As such, I have taught a range of students.  As a matter of fact, one year, I filled in for a colleague, teaching a remedial math (I actually considered it arithmetic) class. Not my normal post…

This is not something I normally do.   No, this is something that my friend, Janette Fuller does.   She reviews books you- or your children- should read.  But, I am going to recommend a book for you today.  One written by the child (Sorry, Ilana, you are younger than mine- so you will forever be a child) of my good friends.  A woman (see, I can change) that I have known for most of her life.

Job Opportunity: BA, BS required

No Gravatar

I used to joke- back when I first moved to Alexandria (that’s about a quarter century ago)- that jobs were getting scarce because companies were demanding college degrees for no good reason.  It was making folks go to college just to get a subsistence job, which is why so many poorly qualified or even unqualified people, were demanding the right to enter colleges.
