Competition? Yeah, that’s a crock!

Do you remember learning in grammar school about monopolies and how they were bad for America?  .

We learned how the government broke up Big Oil and Big Steel.  How legislation was passed to stop monopolies from forming. I certainly do recall learning about the Sherman Act (1890), Louis Brandeis, plus Teddy Roosevelt (both from school and my grandpa).  Not to mention Senator Estes Kefauver and his Anti-merger Act.

The first of many? Or just a stretch too far?

I have written (here’s one from more than 2 years ago) about this sort of issue before.   While I have mixed emotions, I don’t want insurance companies to purchase (or otherwise acquire) physician practices.  I am not sure I want hospitals systems to acquire docs, either, but it seems that the courts are coming around to my point of view, too.
