Where to start?
Should I start in 1957, when the Dodgers left Brooklyn? Or a more seemingly unrelated event from 1960? Or Father’s Day, 1964? Or just 8 April 2022?
Father’s Day
This Sunday is Father’s Day. And, as has been true for many of these (alternative fact) holidays, I’ll be spending it with my kids. At the Phillies stadium.
Stay in the strike zone!
We keep hearing various politicians claim that ‘Business’ is afraid to expand because of governmental uncertainty. Yet, these same folks repeatedly threaten to shut down the government over the smallest of disagreements. In actuality, nothing is really uncertain in the real business marketplace(the marketplace is always uncertain- I mean more than normal): The tax code has not changed in years and regulatory pressures (unless operating a power plant) have not been radically changed, with the sole exception of the healthcare insurance situation. Moreover, healthcare costs have been going up reliably- and without reason- for nigh two decades now, so that’s nothing new to anyone (in or out of the business marketplace).
I want you to read about baseball? Really?
If you’ve been reading my blog, you know that I am a big “phan” of the Phillies. And, nowadays, teams trade their people at the drop of the hat. (To be honest, that is not a Phillies trait, but it does happen.) Last year, Jayson Werth, our right fielder was a free agent and though he could get a big boost in pay. He did- but now he’s a Washington National. (I do see every Phillies game here in DC, where I live, as well as in Citizen’s Bank Park. I may not root for the Nats, but I still follow Jayson.)
We ARE in this together!
To most of you, it’s April Fools’ Day. I never really got into that. But, today is a special day for me. It’s Opening Day at Citizen’s Bank Park. My beloved Phillies have their first home game today. And, yes, as I will do umpteen times this year, I will drive from Virginia to Philly to root for my team. (I will also root for my team every time they come to DC to whup the Nationals!).
