I warned y’all that that the Federal Reserve was going to make running our businesses more difficult this year.  These repetitive ¾% interest rate hikes are supposed to control inflation- and they probably will- but in the meantime our cost pressures are immense and the economy is roiling under their yoke.

We are generally an optimistic people.  We tend to believe that the best is yet to come.  And, entrepreneurs- they are really optimistic.  After all, if they didn’t expect things to work out- and work out well- why would they spend any time attempting to build a new venture?

Elul’s End

This is nearing the end of my annual introspective season.  Today is the last of the 30 days of Elul.  Tonight (all Jewish days begin at night; the Tora says, “There was evening, there was morning, one day”) is Rosh Hashana (the Jewish New Year).  The first day of Elul was the anniversary of my mom’s death and the coming of age of my eldest daughter.  Elul or Rosh Hashana are normally associated with  the advent of the academic year.  Plenty of reasons to wonder:  Am I where I want to be?  But, the questions I will pose today are ones we all need to examine each and every day….“How much do we really need?”

Don’t wait until it needs a “turnaround”!

Have you ever had the “opportunity” to be driving on a country road and seeing a car’s headlights seemingly aimed directly at you… Yes, the drunk is using your lights as a beacon. What do you do?  Turn off your head lights? Slam on your brakes and pull off the side of the road?  Or switch to the opposing lane of traffic (hoping no one is behind him)?
