Anonymity Ends soon.
I wrote about this the first time back in 2019 and then again last December.
Did you sign away your privacy?
Do you ever wonder what we do with your data when you decide to let us prepare your taxes for you?
Well, since you probably haven’t asked us to do your taxes, I’m pretty sure you have no idea.
Where’d they get that info?
I’ve spoken about location services and how that puts us at risk.
But, there’s more deviants out there. Those apps we install willy nilly on our phone arrogate the right to invade (and share) our contacts. It’s why you should NEVER let those apps take control of your information.
Peel back the curtain?
Many, many moons ago, when we first formed our venture, we incorporated in Delaware. (This was way before LLC’s had been ‘invented’.)
Nighty night
I have a buddy who has a hard time falling asleep. Like many other senior citizens. (I am not, thankfully, among them!)
Give me your data. Now!
I have been using a portable computer for nearly 4 decades.
A fellow Chem E, one who was writing books (and created a computing publishing house) about computer programs felt he could create a better computer than any had offered to date. So, in 1981, Adam Osborne did just that. He offered a portable computer (weighing in at a svelte 22 pounds), with a 7 inch screen, and two 180 KB 5 ¼ inch flopping drives. I had three of them- and replaced them when he offered up 360 KB drives- double the storage! (The last floppy I used stored about 3 MB!)
NextGen???
I routinely use a virtual disk and use an alternative eMail address when I peruse the web. I don’t want anyone to be able to insert a bot or a virus on my computer that will leave me unable to peruse my data- more importantly, I don’t want anyone else to examine the contents of my computer.
I know everything about your kids
You know there’s a law the precludes companies (websites and apps) from tracking personal data and collecting personal data if the user is under the age of 13, right? (Now, you know why Facebook wants all users to be over the age of 13, too.)
We’ve been exposed!
Privacy. We all want it. But, we’ve already seen that the GOP doesn’t believe we deserve it. After all, in late March, they demanded that the FCC rules on internet privacy be rescinded. (I say GOP because the legislation passed 215 to 205 in the House- with nary a Democratic Congressperson agreeing with the bill that was sent to the President to sign into law. But, 15 Republicans didn’t agree with the bill and did vote no.)
