So, yesterday, we discussed Kitty and Cliff Hach- those entrepreneurs who made water testing easy, reasonably priced, and reproducible.

2 liters…
Decades ago, I became involved with a few water treatment companies. (These firms were actually venturing into water reuse and industrial water needs; they also asked us to help them with their entire business efforts.) It was an eye opener when we saw their water supply business. This was long before it was normal to see those 5 gallon jugs in our offices and home, proffering cold (and hot) drinking water for our needs.
Qua[li]/[nti]ty- More?
Yesterday, we talked about parental involvement with children of adolescent age (and a little younger). That study used time diaries (Panel Study of Income Dynamics, Child Development Supplement) kept by parents on a 24 hour basis.
Qua[li]/[nti]ty
Quality versus quantity? That’s been the argument forever about raising kids. Which became even louder as moms began trading their jobs at home for jobs in the office or factory. Couple that with the desire to give our kids everything we never had (violin lessons, soccer camp, ballet, scouting) and we have a recipe for overload.
21st Century at last?
Way back when I was first starting out as a chemical engineer, I had the opportunity to meet some pioneers in the field of bioengineering. No, this time I don’t mean the medical version of bioengineering- but the biochemical types. Drs. Arnie Demain, Elmer Gaden, Art Humphrey, Danny Wang.

Mythbuster!
I read a manuscript today and realized that I am guilty of believing in myths. Perhaps, you are guilty of the same crime. Crime, you ask? Yes, it’s a crime when we don’t get paid for the value we provide our clients.
Are you ready?
Every business is different. Yet, every business has many, many similar components. Serving as the CEO for jewelry manufacturing venture is different from serving as the CEO for a dialysis clinic- and different still from being the managing director for a law firm. Right now, I am considering whether I wish to help start- and then manage a new health care clinic- one with a business model that will be radically different than what is normally seen.
What’s Generic?
OK. At least some people realized that Obamacare is real. It has not been repealed. It has not been adjudicated as illegal by the Supreme Court. Which means a lot of you are going to have to change another mistaken impression. Generic drugs a priori are not inferior to brand name drugs.
Is there a dry eye in the house?
I routinely woke up with crusted over eyes when I was younger. Yup- allergies. But, I, thankfully, never suffered from dry eyes. (And, those that endured my performances on stage didn’t either 🙂 .) Because dry-eye syndrome is primarily found among post-menopausal women and older people. (Watch it, there, buster!)
