I was talking with my friend the other day on the phone. And, since he called me, I had to hit the mute button on my sound system. (I was doing work, which meant I had a few TV’s blaring- plus the radio.) When I do that, the “screensaver” comes on the TV and news headlines stream.

So, I have been hounded by Comcast to upgrade my modem. Like it would really make a difference.
Oh, sure, Comcast advertises high-speed internet and great TV. Except my TV fails at least once a day. The OnDemand feature crashes mid-program and doesn’t remember where I was in the program. So, if I really want to watch the entire program, I have to start all over again. (Fast Forward is disabled to force one to watch all the commercials.)

To insure that only those that had the right to be in our R&D facilities, we used electronic keys- 30+ years ago. Moreover, the codes changed, based upon the hour of the day. That way those who should not have been in the lab after hours couldn’t be. That was one way we kept our technology to ourselves. Of course, back then there were no USB keys that you could plug into a computer and walk away with secrets. But, you could make a floppy. Somehow, we managed to keep our data smaller back then, too- so a lot could disappear on that floppy (or two or three).
One of my favorite programs on TV is “Monday Mornings”. The cast, the creator, the concept. Because we have always done a post-mortem (I think the military jargon is after-action review) on each project and campaign we have run. We need to know what worked, what didn’t, what we learned, and what we still need to find out.
