100 Days.
That’s right- 100 days from today (I will be inserting this in the queue- so it will be mighty close to that number)- America is going to vote.
100 Days.
That’s right- 100 days from today (I will be inserting this in the queue- so it will be mighty close to that number)- America is going to vote.
Most of you haven’t heard about voting tomorrow. After all, it’s not till next year that we have a Presidential election. Neither do we vote for our Congresspersons or Senators this year. (Those happen in even years, unless someone dies or resigns.)
I know, I know. You’re fed up with hearing how important it is to vote today.
I admit it. I’m aching. Because two days ago, along with a slew of my fellow shul-mates, I walked from 16th & Jonquil Streets to 4th and Pennsylvania Avenue. I had forgotten that more than 7 mile trek was going to be an uphill climb. (Yes, that made the return trip somewhat less troubling.)
Tomorrow, we will see if there is the continued action after the talk. Talk is too easy. It’s the continued, concerted action that makes the difference.
Let’s be totally clear. I don’t expect this bill to pass the House and the Senate. At least not as it’s currently written. But, y’all should know what are the current thoughts. (I’m being generous here, since so many have no idea what’s in this bill, and that’s for representatives from BOTH parties. Note further that this was written on 2 November 2017.)
Continue reading Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. That’s their lie, not mine.
Voting counts. It certainly is VERY important if you live in the Commonwealth of Virginia or New Jersey. Almost all our state and local office positions are up for grabs. Washington state is having a special election that can change who is in control of the legislative body.
I don’t understand why so many Americans think that voting only counts when it’s a Presidential election. Because every single election counts.
Tomorrow is election day. For Virginia and New Jersey, as well as the City of New York, these are big days. We (in Virginia) are going to elect new governors, as well as legislators that will make laws we will have to live with for years, if not decades. And, that’s the point. Too many of you (I have only missed one election- a primary that was held in March- since the first time I have been allowed to vote) only vote in Presidential elections. Which means that you let other folks pick your Congresspersons and state officers- that pass rules with which you vehemently disagree. Or let them move district boundaries to insure that their favorites get elected time and time again, or to insure the opposite party has no chance of gaining a seat. The bubble has burst on the American Dream. We have lost sight of our vision, our mission. As President Clinton said, “If we become ideological, then we’re blind to evidence.” So, I guess we are totally blind, because we have become inimically ideological.
